Quick diagnostic methods

CRP - Examination of C reactive protein

In the few minutes we know if it is a bacterial infection (should be treated by antibiotics) or viral (symptomatic treatment).

Streptest - testing for the presence of Streptococcus A

Streptococcus A causing scarlet fever

Bilicheck - We can check the bilirubin

Bilirubin is observed in the neonatal period for the evaluation neonatal jaundice.

Pulse oximetry

Pulse oximetry is a noninvasive method that  determine blood oxygenation and heart rate. This value is important in infections of the lower respiratory tract such as bronchitis or pneumonias.

Pulse oximeter sensor emits two wavelengths of light that penetrates the tissues (usually the finger).

Otoacoustic emissions

OAEs are measured by presenting a series of sounds to the ear through a probe that is inserted in the ear canal.

Otoacoustic emissions are clinically important because they are the basis of a simple, non-invasive, test for hearing defects in newborn babies and in children who are too young to cooperate in conventional hearing tests.
